Margaret (Margo) Goodman Requard

Age 61, passed away on February 20, 2014 after a sudden illness. She is survived by her beloved son, Robert Requard and daughter-in-law, April Requard. Her greatest joys were the lights of her life, her two grandsons, Austin Requard, 10, and Landon Requard, 8. To the boys, she was their ‘Mimi’, her proudest role. Margo is preceded in death by her father, Robert Goodman, her mother, Irene Goodman, and brother, Breck Goodman. She is also survived by many dear friends, whom she lovingly referred to as, the ‘family you choose’, and the ‘Ya Ya Sisterhood’. Margo was a strong, intelligent, kind, caring, independent woman. She was a hard worker and a very devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. A proud, single mom, she put great value in teaching her son to be open minded and educated. She obtained both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of New Mexico. Margo worked for Honeywell in Albuquerque before transitioning to Las Vegas, NV as a contractor for the Department of Energy. In May of 2000, Margo moved back to New Mexico to be closer to Robb as she began her long career at Intel Corporation in Rio Rancho, NM. Margo, a lover of literature, was also quite a gifted poet and songwriter. She enjoyed scrapbooking about her various travels and chronicling the lives of her grandsons. Margo deeply loved the beach and was especially fond of the ‘green flash’ of sun seen during the final moments of a sunset. One of her dreams was to see a fireworks display over a beach so, this past 4th of July, she, Robb, April, and the boys were able to see the fireworks over the Pacific Ocean. Margo was an avid traveler who loved visiting Europe and soaking up different cultures. Margo was an enthusiastic Washington Redskins fan who never missed a Sunday game with Robb and her grandsons. Margo was also a lover of music and appreciated listening to live bands and live orchestras. Margo was never afraid to try new things, and she had recently begun taking guitar lessons and was excited to learn the instrument. She was well known for exposing her grandsons to culture through various cuisines, theatrical plays, festivals, zoos, and museums. She made it a priority to have once a week ‘play dates’ where she would take them to do an activity from which they always left having learned something new. Margo was incredibly loved and cared about by so many and her absence in this world will be deeply felt. We smile as we honor her because we know she’s having a party in Heaven as she reunites with dear members of her family. This is what The Apostle Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 2:9 when he wrote, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, 2:00 pm at French’s Mortuary at 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, NM. We ask that you wear lively, colorful attire as we celebrate her well-lived life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society, New Mexico Biopark Society, University of New Mexico Honors Program, or the University of Virginia.
