Madeline Scott

Madeline was born October 28, 1930, in Reydon, Oklahoma, to Ebe and Lola Bowman, and spent her childhood in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She met Gordon Wyndall Scott in the summer of 1951, while working as the evening supervising nurse at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. They were married in Clovis, New Mexico on September 14, 1951. Madeline was known for the love she shared with all, especially her family, her culinary talents, particularly Persian cuisine, her work in the church both in the United States and abroad, her mastery of the Persian language, and her unswerving devotion to her husband, Gordon. Through the years, Madeline created beautiful needlework pillows and hand stitched quilts, which she generously shared with her children and grandchildren. Madeline completed her nursing degree at Amarillo College in 1951 and later earned a Bachelor's degree in University Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1996. Madeline shared her life with Gordon and their children across the world over their 63 years of married life: from Texas until 1959 (Amarillo, Pampa, and Houston), where Madeline raised the family while Gordon studied and began practicing medicine; to Loring Air Force Base in Maine from 1956 to 1958, where Gordon was a physician for the Air Force; to Rasht, Iran from 1959 to 1963, where Madeline and Gordon were Presbyterian medical missionaries, Madeline home-schooled their daughter and older son and participated in the Iranian Women's Club; to Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1964 to 1985, where Gordon became a board certified general surgeon and then ran a private medical practice with Madeline's assistance; to Tulia, Texas from 1985 to 2012, where they established a family medical practice and later retired; and finally back to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the spring of 2012, where Madeline endured Alzheimer’s disease at home, with the loving care and support of Gordon, their children, and many others, especially Dr. Margaret Vining, Dawn Schraeder, and Indira Spiess of Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice. Madeline was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cleo Bowman, Tinker Erwin, and Virginia Ledbetter; and one brother, Bill Bowman. Survivors include husband, Gordon Scott of Albuquerque; brother, E.B. Bowman and wife, Dessie of San Antonio, Texas; children and spouses, all of Albuquerque, son, Tom Scott and wife, Tina; daughter, Betty Glover and husband, George, and son, Dan Scott and wife, Catherine; ten grandchildren, Vicky, Crystal, Kyle, Nicole, Meredith, Greg, Lauren, George Jr., Matthew, and Sean; three great grandchildren, Aria, Amelie, and Mia; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Madeline will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen's Methodist Church, 4601 Juan Tabo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
