June 16, 1923 – February 27, 2015. When you read this, I will be at the big beautiful golf course in the sky waiting for my tee time. What a wondrous life it has been. Born in California (second generation) with loving parents and a beautiful sister, Sally, who gave me four handsome nephews. I was married to Samuel Behrens, who came up here much too soon. I have two terrific daughters, Samantha Blauwkamp, married to Rol, making her a stepmother to 9 adult children and grandmother to 16 little ones. (He loved to call me his “precious mother-in-law!”) Donna Motsinger, married to Ted, a wonderful man of many talents. Those two gave me three special grandsons, Dylan, Luke, married to Rachel, and Jeffrey married to Melissa who gave me my great granddaughter, Kaileigh. All though living far away from us but very much in our hearts are Raychel, Whitley, Brandon, Nolan, Jeff, Tara, and Hailey. In 1969, while visiting friends in Hawaii I met Van White. Little did I think a year later I would be living in the “Land of Enchantment” married to my precious Van, who became a loving father to my girls. We shared 44 years sharing new adventures, seeing a lot of this world, and a love that was so special. Because of Van’s well-known and respected business, Albuquerque Safe Company, I was invited on the Board of Directors of various organizations. What fun it was to be on the Oversight Building Committee for the new Albuquerque Convention Center. What an honor to be the first woman to tour the site (although a hard hat really ruins a hairdo). Being a part of the Navy League, when it was being established in New Mexico, was another great experience. An interesting board was the Better Business Bureau. Amazing what people have to complain about and also how some businesses are run. The Pilot Club had an outstanding membership and was known for giving to the community. The Santa Fe Opera was enriched by an amazing group of women in the Albuquerque Opera Guild. We spent hours preparing and hosting the most exquisite formal holiday dinner parties for several years with all of the proceeds going to the Opera. Knowing my love of theater, I was on and off the Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Little Theater for several years. That was years of fun. The year I was treasurer they would place a large L in the theater window. This would tell me, when I was on my way to the Albuquerque Country Club, that they needed me to come in and sign checks! Being a part of the theater was a grand experience. One of my most rewarding board experiences was working on the Board of Goodwill Industries. Spending 23 years with them and honored to serve three years as President. Van and I re-established the Mercedes Benz Club in 1973 and what fun times we’ve had all these years. Serving on the Amapola Garden Club Board was a delight. While my illness prevented me from becoming club president, the club made me their Honorary 2015 President. What a great bunch of gals. I was honored to have been involved with the Sun Country Golf Association almost since its inception. The Association benefits and represents all amateur golfers. Being a board member involved traveling to various golf courses around the State and El Paso. They do so much work for tournaments, rules, course measurements and are responsible for our handicaps, among many other duties. Having broken my leg skiing (6 months in a cast), I had to give up tennis and golf became my real passion. In those days, we “girls” from the Albuquerque Country Club (the best country club in the State) traveled all around New Mexico playing in special tournaments including some in Arizona. What a bunch of fun gals. They’re all up here now playing lots of golf and bridge, and waiting for me to teach them Mah-Jongg. Being a member of the Women’s Golf Association I became a Board Member on and off for years, serving as President in 1984. Those were wonderful years. So many talented women to have as friends and so many golf games, lunches, and parties almost every weekend at the Club. What a life! Gotta go. They just called us, God’s “Fearsome Foursome,” to the tee box. We’re a heck of a team. My partners are Dylan, Bria, and Reva Jo. My favorite caddy is my adorable son, Robin, who is always telling me to keep my head down. See ya, but not too soon I hope. P.S. No funeral. Much too boring.
