Lois Irene Sublett

Lois Irene Sublett passed away on June 20, 2015. Irene was known as a very gracious, talented and loving individual, devoted to her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Julie Tierney, and Ron Sublett of Phoenix; her grandchildren, Alexandra Cabrera of El Paso, Chris Sublett of Tucson, and Garrett Sublett, Vanessa Mielke and Jaime Sublett of Phoenix; and by her six great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, four siblings, Jack, Buster, and Wilson Terrill and Mabel Garver; and many other relatives. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 18, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at La Vida Llena, 10501 Lagrima De Oro NE in Albuquerque NM 87111 (505-296-6700). Irene was born June 23, 1921 on a homestead near Melrose, NM, the 5th child of William and Bronte Terrill. Her mother died when she was eight. Life was difficult during the depression but she helped her father run his grocery store in Melrose until she graduated from high school and moved to Lubbock, Texas to attend business college. She then worked at the Avalanche Journal Newspaper as a bookkeeper where she met Jack Sublett, who was working his way through Texas Tech by delivering newspapers. They were married the day after Jack graduated from the university in 1942 and immediately moved to Schenectady, NY where Jack worked for GE. During the war Irene volunteered with the local Red Cross while Jack served in the Navy. After the war Irene worked in Cleveland where Jack worked for GE until they relocated in 1951 to Albuquerque. Jack worked for Sandia Labs while Irene pursued her many hobbies and wonderful friendships as well as raising their two children. Irene was active in Trinity United Methodist Church and the Sanado Art Group where she began her hobby as an accomplished painter in various media – portraying scenes of her beautiful home state of New Mexico. She also wrote poetry, mostly about her beloved children and grandchildren. The highlight of the family’s life was their many extensive vacations around the US and Canada, often in their RV, and to their cabin in the Jemez mountains. In 2002 Irene and Jack moved to live at La Vida Llena where Jack died in 2004. Irene was described as an “extremely gracious person” and will be much missed by her family and friends.
