David Hill

Age 70, dad, papa, brother and friend left this earth for greener pastures on Friday, April 26, 2013. He is survived by daughters Davarie Hicks and husband, Larry, Tracie McRee and husband, Tim; grandchildren Katelyn, David and Colton; sister Nina Grizzard and husband, Bill; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Hill and Zillah Mary Bonine; and his sister Linda Lewis. Dave was born in 1942 in Covina, California, and later to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attended Valley High School for three years then graduated from Sandia High School in 1960. He served our country as Army Specialist 4th class from 1960 to 1963 earning three metals as well as commendations for sharp shooter and marksman. He married Marjorie Holman in 1964 and they had daughters Davarie in 1965 and Tracie in 1969. Dave started working in the car business with his dad at Freds Used Cars when he returned from the services and continued working in the car business until 2011. He worked for GMAC, owned Dave Hill Auto Sales, worked for and was general manager for several different auctions in Albuquerque and before retiring he was a purchasing agent for several dealerships. He also worked with his son in law Tim for Gallas Racing from 1997 to 1999. This was one of many highlights in his life. He loved the races be it Nascar or Indy and even owned a sprint car for a time. He loved working on his grandparent’s ranch in Pie Town NM and his uncle’s ranch in Bayfield Colorado. This is where the true cowboy came out. Dave retired in Lemitar NM where he roped and enjoyed time amongst friends. He later moved to Pagosa Colorado to enjoy the country life. His departure leaves a large hole in many lives; he still had so much to do and to give to the world. He was kind, caring, fun, strong, generous, never too busy to help others and ornery. If he didn’t give you a hard time you knew something was wrong. Perhaps he is visiting with old friends now, smiling, riding, roping and have a grand time. He will be deeply missed by all. Dave’s family would like to express a special thanks to Julie, his nurse, for her loving care in the hospital. She brought light into his eyes and a smile to his face. A memorial service will be held May 11, 2013, 1:00 P.M. at FRENCH – Lomas on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
