Clifton B. Kinabrew

Clifton Burton Kinabrew – husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend – has died. Cliff became a saved Christian at an early age and loved the wonder of God’s world. He met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 19, 2014. Cliff, known to his family as “Chip,” was born to Clifton David and Edith Kinabrew on December 15, 1931 in Liberty, MS. The first son of eight children, Cliff graduated from Liberty High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Joyce – a radar picket ship – for three and a half years. Upon leaving the military, he attended Central Tech Institute and received an Associate’s of Service Degree in Electronics, Radio, and TV Technology. Following graduation, Cliff worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma as a roughneck. From there, he moved to New Mexico in the late 1950’s and was employed with Sandia National Labs for 36 years working mostly in field tests, including at the WIPP, Nevada test site, fracking in Wyoming and measuring temperatures at Mt. St. Helen’s, as well as many other projects. Cliff retired in 1993. During his retirement, Cliff enjoyed gardening and woodworking, which he shared with friends and family over the years. Cliff, along with several friends, formed the Young American Football League (YAFL). Cliff coached for many years and also served as president in the late 70’s. Cliff was an avid Green Bay Packers fan until he met the love of his life, Sheila Daughton, and became a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, through 42 years of marriage. Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Edith Kinabrew and brothers Clyde Kinabrew and Bobby Kinabrew. He is survived by three children from his first marriage, son Steve and wife, Diane, son Dale and wife, Cathy, and son Bruce and wife, Denise. Cliff is also survived by his brother, Kent Kinabrew, and wife, Christa, brother Donnie Kinabrew, and wife, Leila; his sister, Joyce Sandifer, and her husband, Wally (deceased); six step-children, Joe Thoma and wife, Mary, Nikki Waid and husband Ed, Rene Cronister, Peter Thoma, Celeste DiPaola and Rick DelReal, Gretchen Oswald, and husband, DeWayne, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family asks his many friends to commemorate his life in their own way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Albuquerque Rescue Mission, www.abqrescue.org. Cremation has taken place.
