Carl Schuster

Carl Schuster, age 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on June 23, 2015. Carl was known for his love of family, golf and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; his daughters, Pam and husband, Gary Kissock, Sharon and husband, Aaron Millemon, and Susan and husband, Luke Gilpin. He is also survived by grandchildren, Stephen Kissock and Amanda Ward, Laura Kissock and Lisa Collins, Ashley Gilpin, Kyle Millemon, Jodie Millemon, Seth Gilpin; and great-granddaughter Arden Ward. He is also survived by one brother, three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his golfing and poker playing buddies as well as the La Salita Wednesday lunch bunch. Carl, Jo Anne, and the girls used to spend their summers camping at various spots across the country and spending time water skiing, fishing, and playing in the sand at Elephant Butte Lake, where they found a cabin in 1978 to call their own. With Carl’s encouragement, every three years since 1974 the Schuster clan, which includes six brothers and sisters and their families, have a reunion at a different location catching up on the latest news and sharing stories. Carl was born in Springfield, Illinois, grew up in Auburn, Illinois, and attended the University of Illinois where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He moved his family from the Midwest to the desert of New Mexico to join Sandia National Laboratories in 1956. He later attended the University of New Mexico where he obtained his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering. During his 38 years at Sandia he supported projects that helped to ensure the security of the strategic assets for the national and international communities. He retired in 1994. Since then, he and Jo Anne spent their time together playing golf and wintering in Arizona. A reception and gathering of friends will be held on Thursday, July 2 2015, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 5911 Jefferson St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 to help aid the fight against respiratory disease.
