Jack Alan Hudson

Age 66, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 39 years, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, January 9, 2014. He is survived by his wife Susan; son Keith and wife Stephanie; grandson Oliver; brother Tom and wife Barbara; nephew and niece Daniel and Rachel; and his sister Sue Abreu. He is preceded in death by his parents, MB and Wilma, and his son Scott. Originally from Zionsville, IN, Jack attended Purdue where he received his BS Electrical Engineering and his pilot’s license. Upon graduating, he moved to Philadelphia to work for GE and also earned a Master of Electrical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania. He returned to Purdue for a Master of Computer Science, where he met his wife, Susan. After graduating, he moved to Albuquerque to begin a long and accomplished career at Sandia National Laboratories. There his diligent and persistent work developing the information technology environment furthered the organization’s core mission. He led significant IT projects and was responsible for cyber security advancements as a Senior Member Technical Staff. While at Sandia he earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. He was a brilliant engineer who challenged others to excel and earned him the respect of his colleagues. As the result of a major stroke in 2003, he retired in 2005. He volunteered much of his time with his church, First Presbyterian, and their youth group as well as with Boy Scout Troops 409 and 381, encouraging both of his sons to the rank of Eagle Scout like himself. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, travelling, and often dreamed of moving to Hawaii. He thoroughly liked genealogy and researching his family’s history. A celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, on Monday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. The event will be informal and somber clothing is discouraged. Attendees who insist on wearing a tie are requested to consider ones with cartoon characters. Jack and his family request that in lieu of flowers that you make donations to The Parent Project, www.parentprojectmd.org, Give Kids the World, www.gktw.org, or Sonlight Christian Camp, www.sonlightcamp.org. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and for never losing his (uh, wonderful) sense of humor.
